Project Update and Bakesale!

Some good news: At our regional DI competition, we presented a skit about what we've been doing to help our community. We placed first in the high school division, as well as recieved a Da Vinci Award, for our outstanding set design. We're headed to the State competition in less than a week!

We've also been moving our mural to different schools in our community, to reach as many young people as possible. We've been in two elementary schools and a middle school.

A few weeks ago we held a bakesale in order to raise awareness about our project. Each of our team members made a different item from a different country. We sold Chinese moon cakes, Australian chocolate crackles, Elephant Ears from Latin America, French Breakfast Puffs, Canadian nanaimo bars, and Russian teacakes. We set up a table in our library, and had recipes for each item as well as fact sheets for the countries. The point was to educate and get the word out, so we priced each portion at fifty cents to a dollar. We still ended up making about $70 though! It was really awesome to see people saying, 'Oh, well I think I've had that before, so let me try something new.' And some people couldn't chose so they just went all out and bought one of each! It was a really rewarding experience to see people trying new foods and learning about the other cultures.

Thanks for all your support and wish us luck this weekend at our state competiton!
